Dan McGovern, who played a lead role in Hambledon's back-to-back Southern Premier League triumphs in 2021 and 2022, has marked his return to his native Australia in some style.
Making his first appearance for Wallsend in the Newcastle District Competition in Northern New South Wales, left-hander McGovern hit 105, including ten boundaries, as his team posted 258 against Belmont Whips, whose closed at 15-1 at stumps on day one.
McGovern scored just over 1,000 league runs in Hambledon's championship successes.
He hit six half-centuries and made hundreds against Hook & Newnham Basics and Trojans.
Captained by Spencer LeClerq, Hambledon set sail to the Isle of Wight to play Ventnor at Steephill in their opening Division 1 match on May 6. They expect to be playing in the Village Cup the following afternoon.
Hambledon's first home match is against Rowledge before Basingstoke & North Hants make the trip to Ridge Meadow on May 20.
