Pace bowler Ollie Southon, who took 34 Southern Premier League wickets in this summer’s debut season for Burridge, is one of eight new recruits taken on by the Hampshire’s Cricket Academy.
He was fifth in the overall list of Premier Division wicket-takers this summer, having joined Burridge from SPL3 newcomers Fareham & Crofton at the start of the season.
Southon will join fellow U18s George Pardoe and Scott Currie, as well as U17 quartet Fletcha Middleton, Tom South, George Metzger and Sonny Reynolds.
Hampshire’s Head of Player Development, Charlie Freeston has certainly cast his recruitment net far and wide with Wellington College pace bowler Harry Petrie and Hertfordshire-based George Langston joining fellow Bunbury Festival prospects Tom Prest (Canford) and left-arm spin all-rounder Monam Abbas in the Ageas Bowl nursery.
Joshua Lawrenson will fly across from the Channel Islands to link up with the Academy set.
They will be joined by U17 left-arm seam recruit James Trodd, from OTs & Romsey, and U18s Ben Huntley, from South Wilts.
The Hampshire Academy finished third in this summer’s ECB Southern Premier League, claiming 10 victories across both timed and 50-over games from their 16 contests and consistently impressing against the best senior club players in the county.
Batsman Felix Organ’s mammoth 843 runs at an average of 56.20 saw him top the list of run-getters, whilst the Winchester-based youngster also claimed 24 wickets at an average of just 17.38.
He formed a strong partnership with England Under-17 all-rounder Tom Scriven, who also contributed with both bat and ball with 27 wickets at an average of 18.70 to go with 646 runs at an average of 49.69. The pair, who are spending the winter on Queensland’s Gold Coast, have been offered professional contracts for the 2019 season.

The player pathway system, including the Hampshire Academy, has a strong history of producing talented youngsters that go on to succeed in the professional game, highlighted no more so than eight products of the youth system representing Hampshire throughout their victorious Royal London One-Day Cup campaign this summer.
