Hampshire’s Academy side is set to break from tradition and play at least three Sunday matches in the ECB Southern Premier League in mid-summer.
With the Ageas Bowl hosting England’s T20 international against Sri Lanka on 19 June and then the inaugural ICC World Championship final between India and New Zealand the following week, the Nursery Ground is unavailable.
So, the Academy youngsters will host Burridge on Sunday June 13 – giving both teams two Premier Division matches in the space of 24 hours. The county fledglings are at Bashley (Rydal) the previous day, with Burridge hosting Havant.
The Academy’s scheduled home match with Bournemouth (June 19) has been put back 24 hours and will now be played at Chapel Gate.
Promoted Hook & Newnham Basics, the 2019 SPL1 champions, thought they might be set for a trip to the Isle of Wight on Sunday 27 June as there was a possibility their 50-over red ball game against the Academy being played at Newclose. But, much to Keith Lovelock's relief, the match has been switched to Hook's home ground at the KGV.
