
Hampshire’s Academy side have scored a notable Under-18 T20 double over their Kent and Somerset counterparts this week.
They followed up their two wins over Kent at Winchester College with a polished performance against Somerset’s Player Pathway at Bashley (Rydal).
Tom Prest (47) and Harry Broderick (40) bludgeoned 93 off the six-over power-play as Hampshire steamed past Somerset’s 112-6 in only 64 deliveries, the pair clearing the boundary rope five times, alongside scoring ten fours.
Luc Benkenstein, 16-year old son of former Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein, pictured left, who is studying at Seaford College in West Sussex, blazed 62 as the Academy hit 171-5 in the second match.
Hook & Newnham Basics’ teen pace bowler Max Simpson took 3-27 as Somerset caved in to 101 all out.
Somerset 112-6 (Baird 39, Kelly 2-15) Hampshire 116-3 (Prest 47, Broderick 40). Hampshire won by seven wickets.
Hampshire 171-5 (Benkenstein 62, Mumford 34) Somerset 101 (Simpson 3-27, Petrie 2-5, Khanna 2-14). Hampshire won by 70 runs.
But Hampshire’s Under-16 Development side lost by five wickets to Dorset Under-18s at Bemerton after being dismissed for 130, Alton’s Jude Wright (34) top scoring.
Toby Berry (4-37) and Lewis Freak (3-18) did the damage for Dorset, for whom Parley's Kieran Laird (38 not out) and Paultons’ Ben Rogers (26) polished off the target.
