Hampshire's Academy squad has flown to the Channel Islands to play Guernsey in two 50-over and two T20 matches in preparation for the start of the ECB Southern League season against champions St Cross Symondians at the Green Jackets Ground on Coronation Day, May 6.
Captained by England U19 batsman/wicketkeeper Joseph Eckland, the Academy will largely be unchanged from last season's squad, which finished runners-up. Andover batsman Sam Ashman and Hambledon seam Oli Cordery are new kids on the block.
They won their opening T20 match on Thursday evening. The Academy plays Guernsey in separate 50-over matches on Friday and Saturday before concluding the four-day trip with a second T20 on Sunday.
Dom Kelly (above) was the star of the 12-run T20 victory on Thursday, smashing three sixes and six fours in a blistering 54 off 27 balls as the Academy posted 123 all out. Tom Cheater took 4-14 and Ethan Baker 2-14 as Guernsey fell short at 111-8.
