The Hampshire Academy played – and won – the 30th match of a truncated season when they beat Surrey YC’s by 39 runs in a two-innings affair at Totton & Eling’s Southern Gardens.
The dry, bowler friendly surface created a low scoring but nonetheless intriguing affair with Hampshire enjoying a slender ten-run first innings advantage and eventually running out winners having set Surrey a 177-run target.
Harry Broderick and George Metzger worked hard for their runs in both innings, while Charlie Mumford (42) and Dubbs Wood (25) pulled Hampshire out of a second innings pickle at 100-6 to set up a Surrey run chase. Broderick and James Trodd shared six Surrey second innings scalps, while left-arm seamers, Eton College’s bustling Finn Catherwood-Smith and South Wilts’ Josh Croom caught the eye earlier.
