James Fuller took the lead role as Hampshire swept to the top of the Second XI County Championship table with a seven-wicket win over Surrey at New Malden.
The all-rounder, pictured, top scored with 46 and 74 not out, besides taking a brace of Surrey wickets in each innings.  Scott Currie also caught the eye with seven wickets in the match.
A low scoring affair saw Surrey dismissed for 186, but still enjoy a 27-run first innings lead after bowling Hampshire out for 159, Matt Dunn taking 6-30.
Fuller top scored with 46, while Luc Benkenstein, 17-year old son of former Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein, who is spending the summer at Seaford College, made 37 not out.
Having taken 3-52 in Surrey’s first innings, Currie took 4-34 and spinner Felix Organ 3-3 as Surrey rolled over for 148 in their second knock, leaving Hampshire 176 to win on the final day.
They slipped to 42-3, but an unbroken 134-run partnership between Fuller (74) and Tom Scriven (52) swept Hampshire home without further loss.
It was Hampshire’s fourth successive win. Second XIs now go into a month-long series of T20 matches, starting against Surrey at the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground on Monday week, May 31.
Surrey 186 (Patel 59, Currie 3-52) and 148 (Evans 50, Broad 36, Currie 4-34, Organ 3-3)
Hampshire 159 (Fuller 46, Benkenstein 37*, Dunn 6-30) and 176-3 (Fuller 74*, Scriven 52*)
Hampshire won by seven wickets.
