HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE GUIDANCE ON WORLD CUP SOCCER CLASH

3/7/2018

As a result of their penalty shoot out win over Columbia, England play Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals this Saturday (July 7) kick off 3pm.
This is obviously in the middle of Hampshire League cricket matches. As wonderful as it would be to think that this will have no effect on players’ availability and teams' ability to get sides out, the HCL is being realistic: it will !
Therefore, in the spirit of common sense and getting cricket played, the Hampshire Cricket League (HCL) recognise the situation and so -
• Clubs can bring the start time of their match forward as far as they like upon agreement with the opposition. The date of the fixture cannot be changed.
• If an earlier start time is agreed, the tea break can elongated in order to see or listen to some or all of the football. Please ensure that sufficient time is left to get the game completed; the HCL does not want matches finishing in the dark if it goes to penalties!
• No reduction of overs will be allowed in the fixture.
• Clubs in a division with panel umpires should advise them of any changes and confirm that they are still able to stand in such changed circumstances.
The above can only happen if BOTH TEAMS AGREE. If one team is not able to move from the scheduled start time, then no change can be made. Members of the league management committee or result secretaries will not get involved in any disagreements. The HCL is encouraging teams to be as FLEXIBLE as possible, the aim after all is to get cricket played especially in such good weather of this summer.
