Parley were expecting to put the finishing touches to their successful County Division 3 South title campaign at Bashley (Rydal) this afternoon.
But they almost had no where to celebrate after their clubhouse caught alight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Six fire crews attended the blaze at the West Parley-based club, but a relieved secretary Dean Ayres reports the damage is not as bad as the club feared.
“The changing rooms, the JFS and the function rooms are all unaffected and today’s cricket should not be affected, provided it doesn’t rain that is,” he said.
“The pool table area and the part of the lounge between the entrance door and the bar (pictured) are the worst affected by the ceiling coming down.
“All in all, it could have been a lot worse.”
Prior to their scheduled visit to Bashley, Parley had won 12 of their 13 CD3 South matches and tied with Ferndown Wayfarers.
