St Cross Symondians' Southern Premier League championship winner Charlie Gwynn hit a valiant 85 as Hampshire IIs battled in vain to save their Second XI Championship match against Kent at Folkestone today.
Forced to follow on after being bowled out for 119 (Jack Stearman 31) in reply to Kent's 289, Hampshire made 225 in their second dig, mainly due to a last wicket stand of 75 between Gwynn and Jack Campbell (44), who lifted the visitors from 158-9. Fletcha Middleton earlier made 45. Kent polished off the target to win by eight wickets.
Nine Southern Premier League cricketers, four county contracted, are playing for Hampshire IIs. Lymington spinner Dan Cox and Jack Campbell shared six Kent wickets.
