Hampshire Seniors lost eight wickets for 55 runs as they allowed a promising position to escape from their grasp against their Kent counterparts in the National Sixties Championships at Gravesend, where the veteran Spitfires won by 23 runs.
With Andy Steggall (left)(70) and skipper Neil Trestrail (57) at the helm, Hampshire were motoring nicely at 170-2 and seemingly in a good position to overhaul Kent's 248-5 - and celebrate a unique double over their Bat & Ball ground hosts.
But it all apart as Tony Mitchell and Rupert Staple shared the eight wickets that sent Hampshire crashing to 225 all out. Earlier Jim Phillips hit 101 not out for Kent.
Hampshire Seventies ran into similar batting problems and were dismissed for 143 by Somerset at North Perrott, Pete Green's 70 contributing almost half the team's total. Tony Adams made 18 and there were 23 extras. Somerset 70s totalled 159-5.
