Hampshire Seniors made an inauspicious start to the new season with heavy defeats by Wales and Middlesex in the National Over-60s Cricket Championship.
Hampshire’s A team lost by eight wickets to Wales at Hursley Park, with the B side suffering a six-wicket defeat to Middlesex in the Second XI competition.
Struggling at 22-3, Hampshire were boosted by Paul Kerley (35) against Wales, but owed much to a 61-run seventh wicket partnership between Barry Goodman (46) and Martyn Collins-Ballands (26) for their eventual 164-6.
Wales polished off the target with some comfort, John Cooke hitting an unbeaten half-century.
Martin Hall hit 50 for Hampshire II, whose 160-6 was easily overhauled by Middlesex.
Hampshire A are away to Gloucestershire on Tuesday.
