Hampshire Seniors have taken a firm grip of the ECB 50-plus County Championship south and west group after back-to-back wins over the Isle of Wight and Cornwall gave them a four-point lead at the top of the table.
They trimmed the IWCB by five wickets after restricting the Island to 178-7 (Steve Priddle 43) and Paul Burrows (45), Stu Shapland (37), Brendan Fourie (34*) and Keith Harsham (29*) knocking off the runs.
Nick Gargaro took 3-28 and Peter Hayward and Chris Russell two wickets each as Cornwall were dismissed for 146 at Hartley Wintney, where the promising Andy Giles (pictured) underlined his class with an eye catching 56. Darren McBride (36) and Darren Vann (24) shadowed him.
Hampshire have a week or so to rest their aching joint ahead of a potentially titanic derby with neighbours Dorset, who will surely test the Seniors' five-match winning start at Wimborne & Colehill on Thursday July 21.
