Talented Ropley teenager Huw Wheeler has been named Hampshire’s Under-15 Cricketer of the Year and is pictured with the Peter Lewin Memorial Trophy, previously won by Alex Ayers and Tom Prest.
Huw, 15, who attends Bedales School in Steep, has played for Ropley since he was seven years of age and as a languid and stylish left-hand top order batsman and developing pace bowler, has gradually made his way through the county’s junior representative team ranks.
Having enjoyed a fine all-round season for Hampshire Under-15s and made his mark in the county development squad, Huw has joined the Hampshire Academy, for whom he took 4-34 on debut against Burridge in August.
He also played in the Academy side which won the Southern Premier League’s T20 Plate competition.
Huw certainly isn’t short of pals to practice with, as elder 17-year old brother Joe turns out regularly for Ropley’s Hampshire League side and sibling Ollie is a promising pace bowler for Hampshire Under-12s.
