Canford prospect Tom Prest hit a half-century but was unable to save Hampshire Under-17s from an 86-run defeat by Northants in the ECB Royal London Cup final at Kibworth.
Prest scored 55 and enjoyed half-century stands with Tom South (20) and Fletcha Middleton (34), but his dismissal at 113 began a panic collapse which culminated in Hampshire losing their last five wickets for four runs, Henry Warren taking 6-21. James Regan made 24.
With 11 overs still to be bowled, Hampshire were eventually 169 all out, having earlier done well to claw their way back after opener Harry Gouldstone’s 110 threatened a sizeable Northants score. But Bradfield College spinner Cameron Khanna (4-45), Prest and Freddie Gadd slowed the pace and Northants had to settle for 255-9.
