Hampshire Under-17s lost seven wickets for 29 runs as they tumbled to a 79-run defeat against Gloucestershire in the ECB County Championships at Totton & Eling’s Southern Gardens.
Chasing a hefty Gloucestershire total of 290-4, Hampshire began brightly through Cole Campbell (25) and George Pardoe, left, but directly the Bashley (Rydal) all-rounder fell for an attractive 62 (three sixes, seven fours), Hampshire fell to pieces.
The architect of their demise was Magdalen College School talent Ollie Price, who had earlier hit a superb 133 not out.
Price, a former school team-mate of Hampshire prospect Tom Scriven, took 5-36 as Hampshire collapsed against spin to 131-8. Mo Abbas (53) and Ben Fisher (33) spared Hampshire’s blushes with an unbroken 80-run partnership to lift the final score to 211-8.
Hampshire host Somerset in their third Under-17 county match at Southern Gardens on Sunday, 1100.
