Hampshire U17's got their ECB County Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 10 wicket win against Somerset at Taunton Vale.
After losing the toss Hampshire were asked to bowl and Somerset got off to a strong start in the first 10 overs (57-0). The introduction of spin changed the game, left-arm pair Monam Abbas (5-25), Freddie Gadd (2-15) and Tom Prest (1-21) took wickets at regular intervals and dismissed Somerset for 156.
The Hampshire openers, Tom Prest (49*) and Tom South (94*) rarely looked troubled, punishing the short ball and dominating the spin, as they passed the target in the 23rd over. South smashed three sixes and eight fours.
Hampshire's next match is against Worcestershire at Totton & Eling on Thursday 30 May.
