Fletcha Middleton and George Metzger shared a century partnership as Hampshire’s youngsters swept to a five-wicket win over Worcestershire in their opening ECB Under-15 County Championship 50-over group match at Stourport.
Middleton, left, hit an unbeaten 79 and Basingstoke’s Metzger 58 in a third-wicket stand of 115 to take Hampshire to within sight of Worcestershire’s 216 all out.
Earlier, openers Tom South (25) and George Pardoe (20) gave Hampshire a sound start, while South Wilts’ Ben Huntley biffed a quick-fire 21 not out to clinch victory with ten overs to spare.
Spin pair Joe Vaughan (3-38) and Mo Abbas (3-22) too the bowling credits, reducing Worcestershire from a solid 84-1 to 96-7, six wickets falling for 12 runs in mid-innings.
