Havant's Harry Hovey was the hero of Hampshire Under-17s absorbing 24-run win over Wales on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground - a result which has earned the local youngsters a place in the ECB 50-over Cup semi-final against Surrey, at Reed's School, Cobham, on Sunday August 16, 10.45.
Arriving at the crease with Hampshire an uncertain 155-5 - Jake Goodwin (34), Felix Organ (42) and Ben Caldera (53) had disappointingly all got out after promising starts - Hovey cracked a delightful and creative 93 not out and, with Tom Scriven (39) a key partner, guided Hampshire to 308-8.
Skipper Kiran Carlson hit a splendid 111 as Wales mounted increasing pressure on the Hampshire total, but wickets fell - three to Alton's Dan Scott (3-37) - and in the end they were bowled out for a gallant 284.
