Havant hit the highest 50-over ‘white ball’ score of the season when they racked up 318-4 against beleaguered Basingstoke at May’s Bounty.
The eventual 144-run victory lifted the seven-times champions out of the ECB Southern Premier Division’s bottom two and left their hosts contemplating life in Division One next summer.
Stuart Ransley (pictured) led the way with 113 (one six and 13 fours) to become Havant’s sole centurion of the season, sharing significant partnerships with Harry Gadd (72) and Richard Hindley (84) as Basingstoke (having won the toss) were batted out of the contest.
In a much-changed batting line-up, the Bountymen were soon in trouble as openers Max Harsham and Hampshire Over-50s star Andy Giles departed with just five scored. Chris Froud (27) and David Griffiths (18) were the only players in the top six to get into double figures as spin duo Chris Morgan (3-46) and teenager Freddie Gadd (3-24), back from a nasty knee injury, wheeled away successfully.
It was left to Ashley Neal (25) and top scorer Greg Donaldson, whose 59 included seven sixes, to make sure the home side made it into three figures. The pair added 67 for the seventh wicket, but after that Basingstoke lost their remaining three wickets for seven runs being bowled out for 174.
