Havant’s Harry Gadd, who captained Hampshire Under-17s this summer, played the lead role as an Otago Development side beat Southlands by 100 runs in a 50-over match in New Zealand.
Gadd, who is playing for Queenstown Ballarat (the venue for the ICC Under-19 World Cup last February), hit an unbeaten 82 as Otago posted 256-6 and then weighed in with a 4-20 haul with the ball as Southlands were dismissed for 156. Gadd had retired Hampshire left-hander Jimmy Adams on his list of victims from the 2018 SPL season.
Calmore Sports left-hander Ben Johns is cashing in with runs for Brighton in Victoria’s South West sub-district competition.
The left-hander followed up two early scores of 35 and 24 with impressive knocks of 76 and 75 for Brighton, an affluent resort which includes Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne amongst its residents.
Up on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Hampshire duo Tom Scriven and Felix Organ took five of the ten Helensvale Pacific Pines wickets as their adopted Broadbeach Robina club successfully defended 189-6 to win by 38 runs.
Organ made 25, but it was Scriven who got amongst the Helensvale top order, his 3-21 spell with the new ball accounting for three of the top five batsmen. Organ later weighed in with 2-40.
Lymington all-rounder Ryan Scott is similarly impressing in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, where he made a half-century in his debut Ringwood & District match for Norwood.
He struck with the ball in this weekend’s match against Chirnside Park, who at 99 without loss, appeared well set to chase down a 185-run target.
Cue Scott with the ball – his five-over spell yielding a 3-13 return and the scalps of three of the top four opposition batsmen as Chirnside Park tumbled to 141 all out.
Hampshire’s Lewis McManus pouched four catches as Casey South Melbourne piled up 329-9 in the Victoria Premier competition, but was dismissed for 23 as Camberwell Magpies were dismissed for 213 and soundly beaten.
County team-mate Joe Weatherley hopes to join McManus in Melbourne soon, but is currently experiencing visa problems.
South Wilts’ pair Ben Draper and Luke Evans helped Parkdale to a convincing 144-run first innings win over McKinnon in Melbourne’s Southern Bayside Championship.
Draper made 33 in Parkdale’s 268, while Evans took 3-46 as McKinnon fell to 124 all out.
