Jack Budd scored his second consecutive Southern Premier Division 3 century and raised his season's aggregate to 405 runs from six knocks when he made 101 in Langley Manor's 45-run victory over Basingstoke & North Hants II at May's Bounty.
Budd, who hit a career best 137 not out against Tichborne Park seven days earlier, has won the round 8 'Cricketer of the Week' award sponsored by this website and which he will receive before the Manor's home match against Portsmouth & Southsea at Knellers Lane on Saturday, 1230.
Effectively carrying on where he left off the previous week, Budd struck three sixes and 13 fours, sharing another big opening partnership with Conor Browner, who was out for 54 at 155-1 when he was closing in on a century at 91 not out. The pair had put on 229 against Tichborne Park.
Langley Manor went on to make 207-4 before dismissing Basingstoke for 162, Rakitha Perera (37)(who earlier took 3-38 with his left-arm spin) and Craig Williamson (24) sharing a 57-run start before the Manor turned to spin with considerable success.
Little Tommy Spencer (3-29), who had earlier developed pad rash while Budd and Browne were batting, cut through the top order before Nick Doubell returned 4-25 and Stoke fell away to 162 all out.
A third win in four has lifted Langley Manor into second place 14 points behind leaders Hambledon, whose visit to Tichborne Park joined Portsmouth & Southsea/Gosport Borough and Purbrook/Hook & Newnham Basics II on the cancellation list. Trojans did send down six overs against Hythe & Dibden before conditions became too slippery at Jones Lane.
