Jude Wright (left) starred with bat and ball as Alton carried off the Vitality Hampshire Under-19 t20 Cup with a comfortable 47-run win over Lymington & Sway at St Cross Symondians’ Green Jackets ground tonight.
The talented 15-year old hit an unbeaten and chanceless half-century before nipping out two of Lymington’s top order to finish with a tidy 2-19 return.
Wright was prominent from the start as he and Abhay Gonella (43) shared a 90-run opening partnership off 12 overs which set up Alton’s win. Leeds University bound Freddie Egleston powered a quick 33 not out as the young Brewers put the final well beyond Lymington with 155-3 on the board.
The talented Churcher’s College all-rounder went on to take 2-19, including the key wicket of big hitting Sway raised Dan Bailey (26). Josh Royan was unbeaten with 43 as the combined New Forest side closed 108-7 and well beaten.
Alton deserved their cup success having knocked out highly fancied pair Hook & Newnham Basics and Portsmouth in the previous two rounds. Six of the beaten Lymington team have been playing regularly in the Southern Premier League Cup in the past two months.
