Fasten your seat belts for a Battle Royale on Southampton Waterside between Fawley and Hythe & Dibden for the probable Southern Premier League Division 3 runners-up and promotion spot.
With a 40-point lead, Bashley (Rydal) II should tie up the title in the next couple of weeks, but the question of who goes up with them could remain undecided until the final round of matches.
That‘s on August 31 – the very day Fawley host Hythe & Dibden at Holbury !
Fawley beat Trojans by three wickets, having dismissed their Stoneham hosts for 117 – Trojans crashing from 44 without loss to 80-8 (Syed Agha 27) against Wayne Smith (3-25).
Rahul Bhome (3-20) and Harvey Singh bowled well to reduce Fawley to 87-7 (Lush 28) before Adam Freeman’s 24 not out got the visitors home.
Hythe & Dibden, meanwhile, won by seven wickets at Purbrook – a comfortable enough margin at the end, but not necessarily when they were 15-3 !
Andy Wakely (4-26) and Tom Gates (2-20) did the principal damage as Purbrook were dismissed for 136 (Martin Lee 31), but three early blows by Tom Amis (3-28) had the visitors rocking.
Cometh the hour, cometh skipper Tom Richards (78) and Craig Stow (44) to provide an unbroken 124-run partnership to win the day.
The Waterside pair go into Saturday’s round 15 matches, 11 points apart – Fawley (home to Purbrook) on 201 and Hythe & Dibden (home to Fareham & Crofton) 190.
Leaders Bashley (Rydal) II trounced now relegated Lymington II by ten wickets in only 32 overs – barely time for the crusts to be trimmed off the cucumber sandwiches !
Sean Read (3-26) and Sam Stroud (2-12) ripped through Lymington’s frail top order, while Phil Morris (3-3) got stuck into the tail.  Lymington were 63 all out.
Tim Taylor (30) and James Turner (22) completed the formalities in eight overs.
