Hampshire’s Academy side boosted its ECB British Gas Southern Premier League survival prospects with an exciting two-wicket win over Alton on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
They chased down Alton’s 262, with Patrick Holly (43) and left-hander Tom South (37) playing a significant role.
The Academy had reached an uncertain 175-6 when the youngsters came together, but their 81-run stand turned the tide and set up the victory. Earlier, Ben Duggan (59) and Tom Scriven (49) put together decent knocks.
Alton’s total was built around former Northampton Saints batsman Dan Harris, who struck a maiden 126, including two sixes and 18 fours. Left-armer Jack Campbell (3-41) again impressed, with spin skipper Felix Organ taking 3-36.
