Hook & Newnham Basics all-rounder Jordan Hobday has suffered another serious and potentially career-threatening injury to his right knee.
He was carried off the Church Road ground at Rowledge and taken to hospital after his right leg gave way as he attempted to make a fielding stop off his own bowling during Hook’s 38-run British Gas Southern League victory.
Hobday, who has twice undergone surgery on his knee in the past, had just taken the wicket of Rowledge’s Australian centurion Tom Treble when the injury occurred.
To compound his agony, Hobday was earlier trapped leg before for a first ball duck, but he did bounce back with the wicket of Rowledge opener Nick Morant and had figures of 2-37 when his day came to a premature end.
Hobday’s injury took the gloss off a fourth successive win by Hook, who moved into second place in Division 1. They successfully defended 244 (Josh Buckingham 60) to bowl Rowledge out for 206.
