The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir weren’t the only Christmas number 1’s – Hook & Newnham Hurricanes topped the charts as well, bowling Compton & Chandler’s Ford off the top of the NatWest Under-16 Indoor Cricket Championship to spend the festive season as leaders.
CCF suffering their first defeats of the season at the Ageas Bowl, having won all five matches prior to their top-of-the-table showdown with Hook & Newnham Basics.
But it all went pear shaped as CCF found themselves unable to defend a competitive 132-2 and, though some wayward bowling, saw Hook pass their score with plenty of time to spare.
Compton hadn’t got the shock effects out of their system as they then suffered an unexpected three-wicket defeat by South East Hants Strikers, who overtook their 125-4 off the last ball.
Liam Doran and Matt Taylor were to the fore as Hook won both their matches to spent the Christmas break at the top of the table.

Compton & Chandler’s Ford 132-2 (Deacon 26*, Vaughan 25*, Dhariwal 18)
Hook & Newnham Basics 136-3 (Doran 28*, Taylor 25, Armstrong 19, Vaughan 2-23).
