Paul Marks, Hursley Park’s new captain, plundered a career-best 174 as his side enjoyed a 309-run romp at the expense of National Village Championship newcomers Emsworth at The Quarters.
He struck six sixes and 22 fours to chalk up a third successive NVC century, Marks having hit hundreds in last season’s competition against Follands and Tichborne Park.
Matt Branford (52) and teenager Tom Flynn (48 not out) joined in the fun as Hursley rattled up 309-5 (Lewis Roberts 4-57) in 40 overs. Emsworth made 229 in reply (James 59).
Sparsholt teed up a second round tie with Hursley Park after rushing Easton & Martyr Worthy for 93, a target Michael Haworth (55) and Richard Kenway (36) polished off.
Indy Chakrabarti’s 75 not only glued Hambledon’s innings together, but set up a match winning total of 193-9 (Callum Giles 3-35) against Longparish.
Rhidian Chapman (4-12) blasted out the Parish top order before spinner George Harding (4-17) reduced the Longparish reply to 101-9.
Tom Allam took 4-30 as Tichborne Park bowled Damerham out for 78 before George Ayling (40) and Henry Don (36) steered the Alresford hosts to a ten-wicket win.
Oakley lost their first four wickets for only one run when Liphook & Ripsley came calling, but at least George Lathaby (29) and Mark Potter (18) got together to lift the ruins to 66 all out – a total the visitors comfortably chased down.
Redlynch & Hale chased down Beehive & Southwick’s 191-8 to win by four wickets.
Rain washed out the ties involving Sway and Bramshaw, and the Langley Manor-Paultons derby. Bramshaw and Paultons get home advantage with the venues reversed this Sunday.
