Lymington overcame a pre-lunch collapse – they lost five wickets for 26 runs after Ben Rogers had propelled them to 101-1 – to re-establish supremacy and eventually inflict a 93-run defeat on ECB Southern Premier Division basement boys Basingstoke & North Hants at May’s Bounty.
They looked set for a 300-plus total when the lean and upright Rogers, playing some imperious shots, launched a 14-boundary assault on Brad Porteous and Chris Jolley.
But having reached 72, he perished to a nick behind off David Griffiths (2-22) amid a worrying wobble which saw Lymington crumble to 127-6 when the lunchtime chilli and rice was served.
Tom Allam (3-34) played his part in the collapse, removing Ryan Scott, Gareth Schreuder and Oli Calcott in quick succession.
Teenager Dan Cox (32), improving week on week, and Darren Cowley steadied the ship before some useful lower-order runs saw Lymington to 214 all out, Ash Neal (2-31) taking the last two wickets.
With Mitch Stokes taking a Sabbatical away from the game and Ben Thane and Jordan Hobday both injured, Basingstoke’s batting wore a fragile look.
Matt Metcalfe (3-21) and Josh Proctor (3-35) seized the opportunity and ripped into a makeshift top order to leave Basingstoke reeling at 25-5 and later 48-6.
Only David Griffiths (47) and latterly Joe Oates (29) put up any resistance as Basingstoke sank to 121 all out and a seventh defeat in eight outings, spinner Cox taking 2-9.

Putting his feet up .. after 56 years ! That's how long Dick Raynbird has been writing sports stories for the Basingstoke Gazette, a job he started with a notebook and pencil in 1963. Billions of words later he's hung up his biro and enjoys watching the cricket at the Bounty with his chums. A retirement well earned !!!
