Isle of Wight cricket and Shanklin in particular has been shocked and numbed by news of the sudden death of Dave Porter, a Westhill legend, while on a New Year break in Tenerife.
A hard hitting left-hand top order batsman and left-arm slow bowler, Dave was one of the best known Island cricketers, scoring some 30,000 runs in his long career with Shanklin. A partner in the Watson, Bull & Porter estate agency, he represented the Isle of Wight throughout his career and, after hanging up his boots, went on to umpire for the Westhill club when they joined the Hampshire League.
