Sam Northeast could make his first Hampshire appearance in six weeks when the second team face the Unicorns in Thursday’s Second XI T20 double header against the Unicorns on the Isle of Wight’s county ground at Newclose.
Northeast has not played since scoring a maiden 129 for Hampshire against Surrey in the second innings of the opening County Championship match of the season at the Kia Oval.
But just as the former Kent captain was being tipped to force his way into the England reckoning, he broke a little finger on his left hand in a fielding session at training and hasn’t played since.
Northeast is named in a powerful 14-man Hampshire squad, which includes eight of the team that could play in Monday’s Royal London Cup semi-final tie against either Essex or Yorkshire at the Ageas Bowl.
One-time Ryde youngster Calvin Dickinson is also named, with Island raised Charlie Freeston manager.
Hampshire’s squad is: Jimmy Adams, Brad Taylor, Sam Northeast, Liam Dawson, Lewis McManus, Ian Holland, Calvin Dickinson, Chris Wood, Ryan Stevenson, Mason Crane, Reece Topley, Asher Hart, Felix Organ, Tom Scriven.
The first T20 starts at noon and the second at approximately 3pm.
Admission to Newclose is free, with ample car parking and refreshment facilities available.
