Multi-talented. Harry Trussler (left) scores hockey goal for Winchester and centuries for St Cross Symondians.
Winchester hockey playing Harry Trussler smashed the highest individual score in the Southern Premier League this season when he hit a boundary strewn 144 to set St Cross Symondians second up for their first Division 1 victory at the expense of a Portsmouth side that has now lost four of its five matches.
Trussler, who scored his maiden competitive century against Andover in last summer’s League Cup, cracked three sixes and 18 fours, enjoying a 121-run partnership with former Hampshire batsman Jason Laney (49), who was run out one short of his fifty.
Apart from when skipper James Christian hit a century when they made 239-5 at May’s Bounty, Portsmouth have struggled to score runs this season and against St Cross it was no different.
Only Jack Marston (35) made his mark as the Southsea side slithered to 132 all out, Cameron Braans taking 4-16.
Things are going from bad to worse for once proud Basingstoke & North Hants.
Relegated from the ECB Southern Premier Division with only one victory in 2019, they lie rock bottom of Division 1 after suffering a third successive defeat – by six wickets at the hands of a relieved Sarisbury Athletic, who celebrated for the first time, Jordan Wright taking 3-20, and Rob Franklin and Chris Sanders a brace each.
Basingstoke were dismissed for 95, having lost their first seven wickets for 41 runs, principally to Sarisbury’s seam bowlers. Four wickets fell for one run at one stage.  Skipper Dan Belcher (27) did his best to stop the rot, but only Greg Donaldson and Chris Chandler (both 12) offered any support.
One bright light on the Bounty scene is teenager Tyler Bradley (3-22), who gave his side hope when his three wickets reduced Sarisbury to 16-3.
That soon became 26-4, but Josh Hill (45 not out), who has taken over from Ricky Rawlins at the helm, took the bull by the horns and with Franklin (31 not out) got to grips with the situation to  secure their own club’s first win with an unbroken 70 run partnership.
