Harry Tulk was run out just four short of a richly deserved century, having single-handedly glued the Old Tauntonians & Romsey innings together and, in doing so, set up a 22-run victory over Southern Premier League Cup rivals Fawley at Holbury.
Tulk’s 96, which contained two sixes and nine fours, spared OTs from a total batting disaster as no other player managed to reach double figures !
Teenager Connor Parratt (3-58) and elder brother Bailey (2-18) quickly reduced the visitors to 17-4, leaving Tulk to navigate his own solo journey.
OTs hugely benefitted from the 47 wides Fawley threw in – Connor Parratt conceding 28 of them – but remained in the mire at 106-8 when Tulk (left) was joined by left-arm spinner Matt Bampton.
The ninth-wicket pair added 66 to lift OTs to what turned out to be a winning 175-9 total.
Sufian Munir, who drives from Kent to play on Waterside each weekend, looked capable of winning the game on his own as he crashed four sixes and six fours.
But when he fell for 61 at 90 – lured out by the Bampton brothers – and Will Crossley (19) followed immediately, Fawley’s threat faded.
They lost five wickets for 26 runs, after which only Bailey Parratt (26) made his mark before becoming one of three victims for Jody Brown (3-37). Fawley closed 153-9.
