Sam Stroud has made quite an impact since his arrival on the Bashley (Rydal) scene after initial spells with Broadstone and latterly Hamworthy in the Dorset League.
His 17 wickets have helped secure top spot in Southern Premier League Division 3 for Bashley, whose four-wicket win over Trojans consolidated pole position.
His 4-27 return off seven overs took out Trojans’ top order and left the Stoneham club rocking at 66-6 (Syed Agha 38) before Rhaul Bhome (38) and Mark Oakden (43) repaired the damage with a 78-run stand.
Chris Vaughan (2-20) and Neil Taylor (3-4) tidied up the tail to leave Trojans 153 all out.
“We first came across Sam through the Dorset Leopards. He clearly wanted to test himself at a higher level and has got better and better. He works hard at his game and ultra enthusiastic – and can hold a bat as well,” praised Bashley chairman John Neal.
Stroud has made two handy scores already this season for Bashley and was there at the end when George Wilson got his side across the line.
Bashley didn’t find it that straightforward, losing two early wickets to Jamie Donaldson before James Turner (39) and Patrick Lewis (20) steadied the ship. Bashley were 102-5 when Turner departed, but Wilson’s 29 not out secured a seventh straight victory.
