Almost 40 years have passed since Terry Morton won his first South Hampshire Indoor Cricket Sixes medal at Fleming Park.
Those were in his Waterlooville days when he was a prolific opening batsman in local cricket circles..
Nowadays and into his early Sixties, Morton plies his trade as a lower order batsman – but is a highly influential and effective leg spin bowler for his local club, Sarisbury Athletic, writes Mike Vimpany.
Bamboozling opposing batsmen with his high-bouncing leg-breaks and googlies, Morton was in imperious form as he helped Sarisbury win a league cup double at Fleming Park.
Playing alongside him on finals night was his son, former South Wilts run gun Tom, now the recently appointed Director of Cricket at Ealing.
Tom wasn’t even born when his father Terry won his first indoor medal back in the late Seventies.
The father and son combination helped Sarisbury beat OTs & Romsey and then Southampton University to lift the knockout cup.
The Wessex students scraped into the final with a dramatic one-wicket win over Peartree - the match decided by an overthrow off the penultimate ball ofa thrilling semi-final.
