Teenager Jack Richards belied his tender 17 years to produce a man-of-the-match performance in Gosport Borough’s 62-run win over Southern Premier League Division 3 strugglers Lymington II.
He rescued Gosport from a worrying 68-6 (Trevor Phillips 4-13) and guided them to 162 all out.
Later the Bay House AS-level student ran amok with the ball, his off-spin bringing a best-yet 6-23 yield as Lymington plunged from 63-2 to 100 all out.
Bashley (Rydal) II moved into second place with a 24-run win at Portsmouth & Southsea, where Phil Morris (88) top scored in the visitors’ 228-8 (Patrick Lewis 38). Jason Eede (29) and Mike O’Sullivan (25) added key late runs.
Struggling at 89-7, P & S refused to lie down with Rob Wigley smashing four sixes and seven fours in a blistering 78 which took the Southsea club to 204 (Oli Kanavan 44) and to within 24 runs of the Bashley total.
Winless Fawley are in danger of being cast adrift at the basement and lie 17 points behind Havant II after Purbrook beat them by 27 runs.
Teenager Bradley Parratt hit a SPL best 61 after Josh McCoy (4-5) and Martin Lee (3-14) had made significant inroads into their reply. Lee (57), Brad Mengham (38) and Sean Figgins (29) top scored in Purbrook’s 206-8, Ali Bryers taking 4-28.
