Jake Goodwin led the way with a county best 138 as Hampshire Colts opened their ECB Under-17 Championship campaign with a double success over Gloucestershire at Landsdown, Bath.
The Swindon-based teen played the lead role as Hampshire celebrated a decisive first innings win in the two-day Championship match and followed it up with a an equally emphatic victory over their West Country hosts in the ECB Royal London 50-over Cup.
Goodwin arrived at the crease with Hampshire in some difficulty at 18-3 after Gloucestershire had been bowled out for 210 (Josh McCoy 3-63) at the end of a rain affected opening day.
But Goodwin took the game away from Gloucestershire, scoring 138 and with support from Billy Mead (20), McCoy (48) and a perfectly timed end innings 48 from Havant’s Bobby Dyer saw Hampshire to 300 all out.
Wickham’s Charlie Gwynne took 3-33 as Gloucestershire made 132-4 in their second innings.
The Bradfield School prospect, bowling left-arm seam, produced a tidy 3-16 spell as Hampshire dismissed Gloucestershire for 179 to win their Royal London 50-over Cup match by 109 runs.
Sam Elijah (57), Harry Hovey (40) and Ben Duggan (39) earlier top scored as Hampshire went on a big hitting drive to post a healthy 288-6.
Hampshire’s next matches are against Devon in the 50-over cup at St Cross Symondians on Monday and at Totton & Eling in the two-day County Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11am.
