Jake Wish calmed Rowledge nerves with a match winning 38 not out after the hosts had wobbled at 84-6 chasing down a modest Sparsholt Southern Premier League Cup total of 138-9. The left-hand all-rounder’s innings at Church Road rounded off a fine individual performance, Wish having earlier taken 2-26 and run out a Sparsholt batsman. Rowledge were looking content at 69-2 (Jonty Sebborn 26), but a four-wicket spell by teenage off-spinner Callum Doran (4-33) reduced them to 84-6. But Wish steadied the ship with a seven-boundary 38 not out and with support from teen Will Ryman (14 not out) got Rowledge home by four wickets without further loss. Earlier, Sparsholt – minus influential figures like Jeremy Frith and David Banks – lost wickets at regular intervals, with opener Robbie Skeates (29) and Mike Haworth (24) top scoring. Will Ryman took 2-20 while fellow teen Oli Baker bowled an economical 1-17 off his eight overs. |
