It was a Peach of a spell if there ever was one !
Portsmouth & Southsea all-rounder Jake Peach took career-best figures of 8-28 as Fawley were bundled out for a meagre 58 at St James’ Park, where the mid-table hosts celebrated a thumping 187-run victory.
The Swansea university economics graduate more than made up for a second ball duck (he was among Wayne Smith’s threesome) by gunning down Fawley’s first eight batsmen and, but for the ten-over restriction on bowlers, might well have got all ten wickets !
Bowling straight – he clean bowled three batsmen, had three more trapped leg before and had another caught behind – Peach went on to claim a hat-trick, with first ball pair Rob Leach and Ali Bryers contributing to the Fawley fine box after teenage top scorer Bailey Parratt (22) had been the first of the three to go.
Earlier, Jack Davies (58) and Shaun Briggs (56) made half-centuries for P & S after earlier contributions from Matt Benfield (34) and Oli Kanavan (32). P & S were dismissed for 245 (Bryers 3-28) with the last four wickets falling for two runs.
Portsmouth & Southsea, 2017 County Division 1 winners, finished sixth, one place above Fawley, who were spared one of the potential relegations spots by four points. A mere four points separated Fawley, Lymington II and Havant seconds.
