
James Wade celebrated a maiden five-wicket haul as South Wilts seconds gave their prospects of Southern Premier Division 2 survival a timely boost wit ha 66-run win over their Basingstoke & North Hants counterparts, who are sliding into trouble at the bottom.
Wade (pictured by Roy Honeybone) ripped the heart out of Basingstoke's top order as South Wilts comfortably defended 208-9, a total posted after Chris Chandler (4-32) and Greg Donaldson (2-42) had reduced the Bemerton hosts to 37-5.
Tom Pearce, with a thoughtful 51, and Stephen Booth (51) effected the South
Wilts recovery which Sam Pittman's late order 36 completed to give the Salisbury side a competitive score.
Wade's new ball spell had Basingstoke rocking at 46-6 before Chandler (44) and Donaldson (22) gave their eventual 142 all out an air of respectability.
