Hampshire opener Jimmy Adams marked his return from injury with a century on the opening day the Second XI Championship match against Somerset at the Ageas Bowl.
Adams, who missed Hampshire’s first two County Championship matches of the season with an ankle injury picked up on last month’s pre-season training trip to Barbados, hit 117, including a six and 16 fours.
His hundred hauled Hampshire out of trouble at 72-4, doubling the score with Brad Taylor (34) and then sharing a 126-run stand with Ryan Stevenson (65) before the innings closed at 288. Former Academy left-armer Tom Barber went wicket-less for Somerset, for whom Josh Davey and Jamie Overton shared eight wickets.
Former West Indies fast bowler Tino Best then clean bowled Ventnor-raised Adam Hose with his first ball to leave Somerset 3-1 at stumps.
