South Wilts’ teenage left-arm pace bowler Josh Croom took his 50th wicket on Australian soil to help his adopted Adelaide club Glenelg reach South Australia’s 50-over West End Cup final on Sunday week.
His fiftieth wicket ‘down under’ since October 2020 came during a crisp five-over spell of 1-14 as Glenelg skittled powerful city rivals Kensington out for a meagre 75.
Glenelg went on to win by nine wickets and tee up a place in the day/night final against West Torrens at the Karen Rolton Oval, Australia’s Academy ground, on Sunday February 13.
“Kensington paraded five of the Adelaide Strikers team that reached the Big Bash semi-finals, so to bowl them out for 75 and win so comprehensively was some effort,” Croom remarked.
The 18-year old from Stratford-sub-Castle, near Salisbury, also took three wickets in Glenelg’s West End Premier Division victory over Adelaide.
His 3-38 return off ten overs include one wicket in his initial spell as a second change seamer and two more when he rejoined the attack later. Glenelg won by six wickets chasing Adelaide’s modest 158 all out.
