Sarisbury Athletic all-rounder Josh Hill smashed an unbeaten 203 off 98 balls against Bramshaw – only to find he’d been gazumped in the Village Cup Performance of the Round award made by The Cricketer magazine.
Hill’s double century swept Sarisbury to a club competitive record score of 373-2 and onwards to a massive 219-run win over second round opponents Bramshaw at Allotment Road.
But deep in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside, his boundary strewn knock was bettered by Jordan Khan, who made an unbeaten 208 for past Lord’s finalists Rockhampton against Oldbury.
Hill plundered 12 sixes and 18 fours in his career-best knock, dominating a huge third wicket stand of 312 with Dan Clouting, who made a more sedate 119, including 17 boundaries.
Watching on from the pavilion and doubtless cheering every six and every four was opener Tom Mills, dismissed for a second ball duck !
Simon Booth (62) top scored in Bramshaw’s 154 all out, left-arm spinner Sam keeping the Hill family in the picture with a 3-23 return.
Next up for Sarisbury Athletic is a juicy county semi-final tie against Hook & Newnham Basics, who cruised to a ten-wicket win over Paultons at the KGV.
Teenage spinner Will Gardner (3-20) and Anik Divecha (2-15) combined to restrict Paultons to 145-6 (Scott Dawes 57), a total Hook polished off without loss in 22 overs, Harry Warner hitting two sixes and 11 fours in an unbeaten 82 and Richard Willcock 48 not out.
Rob Nicklin was man-of-the-match as Liphook & Ripsley eased to an eight-wicket win over Hursley Park at The Quarters.
He took 4-21 and then hit 57 as Liphook chased down a Hursley Park total of 169 (Tom Flynn 57), with Chris Martin (43) and Harry Munt (41) in support.
Sparsholt enjoyed an eight-wicket win at Amport (140-9), while both Bedhampton Mariners and Emsworth forfeited second round matches, as did Parley’s scheduled opponents.
