Toby Barnett celebrated his Tichborne Park debut with an unbeaten half-century as his side successfully chased down Purbrook’s 178 in the Southern Premier League East Division 2.
The Froxfield raised batsman hit a solid 59 not out as Tichborne won by four wickets with time to spare.
Martin Lee’s 82 underpinned the Purbrook innings – the visitors having had the initiative wrestled away from them having been 75-0 (Josh Spiers 28) at one stage.
Ropley recruit Seb Newens (3-32) and Trevor Booker (3-30) bowled Tichborne back into the match.
Tichborne made a steady start through Ed Primmer (26) and Tom Allam, but having reached 44-0 they lost four wickets for 26 runs – three of them to Frank Leslie (3-25) – needing Barnett to keep a cool head.
He found support from Brad Hole (25) and teenager Kieran Connell (21 not out) to ease Tichborne home and boost confidence ahead of Saturday’s visit to Gosport Borough.
Liphook & Ripsley got their East 2 challenge off to a positive start with a five-wicket win over Waterloovile, whose 187-7 was based around openers Jon Hudson (57) and Archie Reynolds (47). But Rob Nicklin (45), Harry Munt (39) and Jon Pryce (37) chased the total down.
