A century opening partnership between Jeremy Frith and Michael Haworth, followed by a Premier League spin best by Liam Doran, carried Sparsholt to an 89-run win over Calmore Sports and third place in Southern Premier League Division One.
In a match reduced to 46-overs per side due to rain, Frith (91) and Howarth (46) shared a 111-run stand which set Sparsholt up for a formidable 245-7 (Ben Perry 3-43) – Dave Banks weighing in with a boundary strewn 54 (four sixes and five fours) before tea.
Calmore’s run chase was cut to 221 off 39 overs but, after a positive start led by Mark Lavelle (34), the innings ebbed away. Ollie Perrin (3-50) broke the mould, leaving left-hander Ben Johns (40) to fly solo before becoming a victim of Doran, whose 5-35 return was his best in the SPL. They were dismissed for 131.
