Tichborne Park face the ever increasing threat of relegation to the Hampshire League after suffering a sixth successive Southern Premier Division 3 defeat by 111 runs to Basingstoke & North Hants seconds at May’s Bounty.
They are in a three-cornered scrap with winless Purbrook (whom they visit on Saturday week) and Hythe & Dibden, their opponents on the final day of the season.
Opener Craig Williamson unleashed a boundary strewn assault on the Tichborne Park attack to set up the result, which should be sufficient to secure Basingstoke & North Hants’ seconds’ immediate Division 3 future.
He smacked two sixes and eight fours in his 63 and almost had his half-century lighting up the May’s Bounty electronic scoreboard before partners Josh Coombs and Scott Dyer were dismissed.
Williamson was eventually out at 113-3, after which Steve Bucksey (36), Neil Shelar (34) and wicketkeeper Alex Yeates (26) took Basingstoke on to a winning 205-4.
Tichborne opener George Ayling (44) hit back, clearing the Bounty ropes three times, but once he was out, the Alresford visitors crumbled from 68-1 to 94 all out, Keith Harris (5-20) and Ryan Connor (5-9) taking nine wickets for 26 runs.
The other four SPL3 matches were washed out.
