James Watterson hit an unbeaten 68 as Hook & Newnham Basics beat Parley by eight wickets to set up a Hampshire Under-17 Kerry Cup final date against Havant at May’s Bounty on Thursday, 2pm
Hook chased down Parley’s 119-9 to win with 16 balls to spare.
Initially, it appeared at though Hook would not have so much time to spare because when Marcus Brannagan (2-23) took their second wicket at 47-2 (Alex Campbell 19), they still required 71 to win off 11 overs.
But Watterson, who made a half-century in Hook’s thrilling one-run win over Sway & Lymington, took charge of the situation and with left-hander Chanula Wickramarstne (19 not out) alongside, punished anything loose to get the North Hampshire side across the line.
Earlier, Parley progressed to 74-1 through Brannagan (36 in 17 overs) and Freddie Pryce (26), but at a stage when they needed to accelerate they lost wickets and fell away to 119-9, with Chanula Wickramarstne (3-26) and Will Wyatt (2-17) reaping the rewards.
