Kerry Cup holders Sway & Lymington crashed to a dramatic last ball defeat against Hook & Newnham Basics, who clung on to defend their tantalising total of 119-9 to win by one run at the town Sports Ground.
The Hampshire Under-17 Cup quarter-final featured half-centuries by James Watterson [left], whose 57 largely underpinned Hook's 119-9 off 20 overs, and Premier League all-rounder Josh Royan, whose penultimate over dismissal decided the match.
All the time Royan (53) remained at the crease, Sway were hot favourites to win, but ten balls from the end he was caught (114-7), leaving the combined side six runs to win.
Will Wyatt sent down that crucial nerve tangling final over, Sway ultimately needing two runs to win off the last ball, which culminated in a run out and the hosts being stranded on 118-8 (Freddie Pearson 20).  Paceman Max Simpson had earlier returned an economic 2-9 off his four overs.
The nail biting last ball win has earned Hook & Newnham Basics a home semi-final tie against Parley at the KGV on Friday evening, 5.30.
Cup favourites Havant host Fair Oak in the first semi-final at Havant Park this (Thursday) evening, 5.30pm.
Would be spectators are requested to bring fold-up chairs to these semi-final matches, together with their picnic hampers and abundant supplies of liquid refreshment !
