An unbroken 125-run partnership between David Banks and Jeremy Frith carried third placed Sparsholt to a seven-wicket win over Old Tauntonians & Romsey, who go into Saturday’s Southern Premier League Division 1 relegation showdown with a nine-point lead over Calmore Sports.
The pair came together with Sparsholt at an uncertain 48-3 (Sam O’Brien 23) in response to OTR’s 171-7, but won the day with 22 balls to spare.
Banks hit eight fours and a six in his 68 not out and Frith a more sedate unbeaten 59.
Earlier, OTs were revived by a 95-run stand between Joe Vaughan (58) and Charlie King (64) after a double blow by spinner Liam Doran (2-29) left them 21-3. Frith’s off-spin yielded a 3-38 return.
