New Zealander Dave Wakefield celebrated his maiden British Gas Southern League century on what might prove his farewell appearance for New Milton. He carried his bat for 106 and shared a match defining 144-run partnership with teenager Oli Shrubsole as the Green & Golds beat relegated Andover by 20 runs at London Road. Wakefield, in his second season as Milton’s overseas player, underpinned the visitors’ 256-7, which fell away from 176-1 when the former Parley youth captain nicked one behind to give Sri Lankan Chamika Karunaratne (4-26) his first wicket. To their credit, Andover gave it a real crack in reply, with Old Etonian Josh Ballentine-Dykes (90) and Harry Blackburn (37) taking the Lions to 161-3. But the pair departed with three runs of each other before Andover went down fighting at 236 all out, left-armer James Haggaty taking 4-34. |
